Nothing wrong with this show at all, but from a musical standpoint I can't share the hype. Very unremarkable.

This is the first Phil & Friends show for my concert collection... and what a first. I can't add much to the excellent review below except some personal faves. I loved the "funkiness" of the Brown Eyed Women. The Mason's was awesome... but the Viola Lee Blues simply blew me away, although I'd agree that placing the Maggie's in the middle didn't mesh as well as I'd hoped. The final IKYR really smoked as well.
I'm only set up at the moment for MP3's. The whole show 64kbps MP3 download has great sound, especially with headphones.

I can't speak to the source of this or the other version of 6/10/01 that is up on the archive (I think my copy comes from the SBD, though the clanking beer bottles and audience commentary might belie this theory) but assuming either of these sources is quality (and again, I haven't listened to either), the show itself is a must have.
First, a little background. As those in the community know, a rather ugly dispute arose around 1999 or so between the "surviving members" regarding GDP, the future direction of that entity, that, *gasp* corporate structure, we know as the Grateful Dead. Bob and Phil essentially stopped talking and went their separate ways, Mickey went off to do some Smithsonian work and experimental music, and Billy went snorkeling in Hawaii (probably the best decision of the bunch). For whatever reasons (I have not the slightest clue why) a detente got Bob and Phil talking again and lo and behold w/o any fanfare (I think tickets were circulated about 24 hours in advance) "Crusader Rabbit" showed up in Mill Valley to play a show on 6/10/01.
The show speaks for itself. I prize this show alongside my all time favorites, 5/8/77, 3/29/90, 6/16/74 etc .. there is just a great vibe, perfect energy and the music is just outstanding, starting in the first set with an 8 minute opening jam that explores several themes before the definitive statement of purpose song, TRUCKIN just roars out of the gate. The seque into Smokestack is not one for the books, but the hint at 3/28/85 is appreciated. China Cat > 11 is another great highlight.
The 2d set is just outstanding start to finish. A really well jammed, stretched out MNS leads off into a Watchtower Jam that melts into Come Together. In light of the prior argument between Phil and Bob, the song takes on a clear double meaning, as these two brothers "smile on each other" and make some magic together (there is also a random "So Nice To Have You Back Together" comment made by the peanut gallery at the end of the set that always cracks me up). Cassidy provides some nice vocal laydown by Weir along with Rob Barraco and then the huge pop for Mason's Children, which just plays oh so nice right into a ripping Viola Lee ... the coupling with Maggie's Farm to me is not that great, but the Viola Lee coda is gravy.
Strong two song encore (which if you move to disc 1 gets you the whole show on 2 discs) with a lengthy IKYR to close out the show.
A true must have for the collector.
